A Focus of Music Curation

The shop's selection is an extension of our work as DJsradio show hosts, and curators. We focus on independent artists and labels with an emphasis on Asian and Pacific Islander communities. We want to help customers build collections they'll love and cherish for years to come.

"Tonight, I’m writing about where I spend most of my Sunday evenings when I’m on island. A little record shop with a big heart called Aloha Got Soul (AGS)Aloha Got Soul recently celebrated their 4th anniversary, and I think a lot of their success as a small shop selling records from the 70s and 80s is that it is a place where craft is celebrated, where friction (quite literally when the needle hits the vinyl) is preserved and curated. About every week, AGS hosts sets that bring together sounds across generations, geographies, and genres with community hangouts, centered around DJs both from and visiting Hawaii. They don’t just play music, they design experiences. Sets become conversations: Hawaiian jazz meets Japanese City Pop. Filipino Soul blends into Afrobeat. It's not optimized. It’s intentional. People from all walks of life come in to listen, to talk story, to connect. The incredible DJs that work and play there have taught me what it really means to hone an ear for music and elevate an experience through craft.

A vinyl record doesn’t play music despite friction—it plays because of it. The needle drags across the wax, translating vibration into sound. Friction into frequency. Resistance into rhythm. Rhythm into dance, and connection... Let’s celebrate those who have taken the time to understand, practice, iterated and then designed a way to give back - they’re worth the friction of finding and enjoying."
